Industry Report - Starting a New Business Chapter
There are no institutional barriers to entry into this industry, however intense competition from imported ceramic fixtures and substitute products will limit the capacity of new entrants to establish a foothold in this market.
The industry has consolidated substantially over the past decade with the exit of numerous firms and the permanent closure of productive capacity. The few remaining players have fended off competition by automating their production facilities. These firms have established brand recognition and an established distribution network. Most also supplement their UK product range with imports.
The dominance of the existing manufactures is likely to discourage most prospective new entrants.
