Plasterboard is rigid board consisting of a layer of plaster compressed between layers of fibre or paperboard. Plasterboard is also commonly known as drywall, dry board and gypsum wallboard. Gypsum is the input material involved in the process of making plasterboard and comes from two sources; natural gypsum is dug out of the ground while synthetic gypsum is made from a by-product of coal power stations. Plasterboard is used to clad internal walls and ceilings and can be manufactured to varying thicknesses, lengths and widths. UK building regulations demand plasterboard meets certain requirements in terms of strength, insulation and resistance to fire and water.
