The industry and its competing imports supply about three-quarters of heating systems in the United Kingdom, with the balance being mainly electric or gas space heaters. The distribution of industry establishments across the United Kingdom bears some relationship with the distribution of population but also reflects the spread of the traditional steel producing regions.
There is an above-average concentration of firms operating in the West Midlands (15.8%), which is the home of leading player Bosch (Worcester). However, both Bosch and Vaillant have plants in Derbyshire in the East Midlands, which has a relatively low representation of industry establishments (5.3%).
