The United Kingdom is the fourth-largest producer of cereals and oilseed in the European Union and accounts for 8% of production. The most important crops across the United Kingdom include wheat, barley and oilseed rape. These crops are mainly grown in southern and eastern England.
Approximately two million hectares of land produce 15 million tonnes of wheat a year. Wheat accounts for an estimated 46.1% of the total value of the industry, down marginally from five years earlier. An estimated 40% of wheat is used in the production of flour and the remainder is used for animal feed and export.
